Occupying a very secluded situation within the pretty township of Drumfearn the subjects for sale comprise of an old School and Schoolhouse which has not been occupied for some 60 years. Drumfearn School and Schoolhouse dates from circa. 1881 and was the smallest school in Sleat. It was supposed to accommodate some 20 children although at one time it is believed to have had 31 on the school role. The school closed in 1943 and is now in a state of disrepair and requires total refurbishment. This was a large stone building with one side used as the school and the other as the house. Whilst the School room was one large open plan room with a high wood lined ceiling the schoolhouse was set out over two floors. The building occupies a generous area of ground extending to a 1/3 of an acre or thereby and the boundary is still clearly marked by the original school railings. The stone building would now make a great project for someone who wants to make a unusual home/business using the original stone and subject to the usual planning permissions being granted.
LOCATION
Drumfearn is a small crofting township situated on the northern edge of the Sleat peninsula and the village is spread along the single track road which is a ‘no through’ road and leads to head of Loch Eishort. The subjects for sale are the first building on the Drumfearn township road and are set back from the road and partly obscured by a hill at the front although the roof top can be clearly seen. The nearest main village is Broadford some 3 miles away which has excellent local services including a modern medical centre, a hospital and a primary school. Drumfearn is also a short drive from the Armadale ferry terminal which connects Skye to Mallaig on the mainland. The nearby village or Ardvasar has a grocers shop and busy hotel.
THE SCHOOL HOUSE
Steps lead up to the entrance and provide access into a small hallway which has 2 rooms off. Stairs lead up to the upper floor which has 2 further rooms.


THE SCHOOL ROOM
A side porch area once used as a cloakroom provides access though to the main school room. This was at one time a large impressive space with a high pitch wood lined ceiling and walls. 2 windows overlooking the garden at the front with a larger window to the rear. Open fire place. Size of School room 19ft 10 x 16ft 4 (6.04 x 4.97m).


GROUND
A very generous area of garden ground is included and this extends to 1/3 or an acre or thereby. A title plan is being drawn up and will shortly be available showing the extent of the land. There is a burn running along the side boundary and the area is relatively flat and provides excellent space for extending or for the erection of outbuildings etc. if so required and subject to the usual planning permissions. A shared access track leads from the township road and then branches off to a private track leading to the subjects for sale.
