DESCRIPTION
‘Tigh Solais’ (‘Lighthouse’) is a superior traditional stone built house with extension to rear and to front. The house dates from circa. 1930 when there was a complete rebuild on the site of an old blackhouse. The impressive sunlounge was added much later by the owner who was the lighthouse keeper for the island of Raasay. He built this to resemble a lighthouse and for a while had the original lighthouse lamp mounted in the sunlounge. Tigh Solais successfully retains many original and charming features such as 4 panel internal doors, wood lined walls and attractive redwood staircase and banister. Occupying a magnificent location with open panoramic views across the Sound of Raasay to Skye and the dramatic Cuillin mountain range the house does now require upgrading and refurbishment but offers an opportunity for discerning purchasers to acquire one of the Island’s premier properties. The accommodation within comprises sun room with curved window, toilet, hallway, lounge/bedroom 3, sitting/dining room and kitchen on the ground floor. The upper floor has a bathroom and 2 further double size bedrooms. The subjects for sale are located on a generous area of garden ground extending to 0.151 hectares (0.37 acres) or thereby and the garden area is beautifully planted with mature flowering bushes, hedges and trees and is very private.
LOCATION
Millpark is a small area of Raasay within walking distance of the village shop and post office. The ferry terminal is about 1 mile away and operates a regular ferry service across to Sconser on the Isle of Skye. New ferry terminal in the process of being built within walking distance. The nearest centre for shopping and services is Portree which is just 14 miles north of the Sconser ferry terminal. Portree has excellent facilities including supermarkets, shops, hotels, restaurants, leisure facilities, industrial estate, a cottage hospital and modern medical centre and also a secondary school. The Island of Raasay has its own primary school but children then move on to Portree for secondary education, new village hall, hertage centre being built and Raasay house is being re-built. The Skye Bridge connecting Skye (toll free) to the mainland is some 18 miles to the south of Sconser.
